Welcome to Insecure Writer’s Support Group day, which takes place on the first Wednesday of every month. The purpose is to share and encourage, express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak, as well as offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds! Make sure to check out other writers’ posts here.
On Forgiveness
Being a writer means you forgive yourself a lot. Or maybe that’s being human?
I’m learning as I work towards my writing goals, I often don’t accomplish what I intended. It comes with the territory I guess – I plan more than I can realistically get done.
Last month I got sick with the flu. It must have been some nasty virus, because I was out for 3 weeks and I’m still recovering. Writing just wasn’t on the radar most days.
Obviously, I had to let go of my writing plans and heed my body’s needs. On the upside, I slept like I haven’t in years and I read more once I wasn’t sleeping through the days.
I forgive myself, and then I move on to what I need to do.
Do you always accomplish what you set out to? How do you deal when you don’t?
P.S. – Remember how I was all ready for spring last month? I’m still waiting. Some snow fell last night, although it’s mostly melted already.
It’s been snowing here too.
I love your mantra – I forgive myself and move forward. Good luck!
Yes, keep forgiving, keep writing, keep going!
I’m ready for spring too. The flu bug can really knock you down. And reading is part of being a writer so you got a lot done.
I keep a daily to-do list and I never accomplish absolutely everything on it. I always plan more than there are hours in the day. But sometimes plans change and there’s nothing you can do about it. So you just plan accordingly for next time and move on.
Reading while you are sick is still productive.
I confess I keep my goals list short so I know I can accomplish them. I hate to lose.
I agree I think reading is productive for a writer, never a waste of time. Hope you feel better.
Juneta @ Writer’s Gambit
Yes forgiving yourself for not meeting your writing goals is important. Sometimes we can’t accomplish everything we want to do. In the same boat and trying not to beat myself over it too much. Didn’t get much writing done this past weekend either, because I was sick. Then had to do laundry all day long and was more lethargic then usual. So was not even in a writing mood at all. Just glad I already wrote and scheduled my blog posts for this week. Hope you get well and back on your feet soon.
